"Why, I ask myself, shouldn’t the shining dots of the sky be as accessible as the black dots on the map of France?" - July 9th, 1888

KANDY KULT

KANDY KULT

There is no emotion,
there is candy.

There is no ignorance,
there is candy.

There is no passion,
there is candy.

There is no chaos,
there is candy.

There is no death,
there is the Kandy Kult.

DON'T FREE WILLY

Killer whales are jerks. Ever seen one help an old lady cross the street!? Of course you haven't. My uncle used to be called, "The Incredible Three-Armed Steve" - Then whale happened! - Now he's just called Steve.

FORZA HORIZON 3

FORZA HORIZON 3

I thought the original logo was too busy with no real hierarchy, so I wanted to give more identity to "Horizon". The "3" is part of an existing font, but "Horizon" and the box were constructed by me; I had to build custom text, because the skew I wanted was extreme enough to visibly distort the columns widths of most fonts.

TREES AT SEA

TREES AT SEA

This was for my friend's band; their sound was a mix of folk and punk. The idea here stemmed from a checkered 2x2 flag, separating elements down the middle, but matching diagonally. The result was a logo that could be split vertically and be read from either split.

HERO

HERO

Inspired by one of my favorite producers, Hero. The entire text was constructed by hand, mixing modern and baroque aesthetics.

MACY'S POSTER

MACY'S POSTER

I did a couple of promo pieces while working as a sales associate at Macy's. Both times, they tried to simultaneously advertise two things; in this case their 25% off event, which was a bit less common back then, and that they would be carrying NDSU Bison apparel - this was their focus. To not overwhelm reading hierarchy, I separated the promotoions with a 90° rotation.

WHENEVER POSTER

WHENEVER POSTER

My friends were pretty bad at giving times for their shows, they usually did it last minute (pun intended), so this was a way to sass them. I was inspired by a lot of promotion done for European electronic music, so I wanted to do something in that vein and blend a rock band attitude into it; my solution was to add hand-drawn elements - shamelessly riffing on Regular Show's style.

TONGUE THING POSTER

TONGUE THING POSTER

I love working on music posters, because you can really experiment with layouts and art direction. This is something that I did with about a day's notice. I was thinking about popsicles, because it was still pretty hot out, and the squares and colors was an abstract callback to punk and ska, since that's what the line-up consisted of.

NUKA COLA QUANTUM

NUKA COLA QUANTUM

There was a limited promotional release of these (not this one specifically) when Fallout 4 launched; since I was unable to get my own, I made my own. I designed the bottle as though it was a true product; there's game lore throughout the design, but I tried to stay somewhat true to Jone's layout structure.

Here's a link if you'd like to print your own label! I addressed some concerns from the original, I remade both the "Nuka Cola" and the "Quantum" logo, making them look more natural and fixing inconsistent serifs respectively.
